Jordan Crossing

Front-End Software Engineer

Background

I've been pulling apart computers since I was seven. By my teens I was flashing ROMs on phones, running bash scripts for VM GPU passthrough, and teaching myself to code. Long-time Linux user (Fedora). A degree never made sense when I was already waist-deep in this stuff. I've always been a bit of a curious hacker in the generalist sense, just interested in how things work and how to make them better.

Current Work

I focus on frontend work (React, Next.js, TypeScript, Node.js) because that's where users interact with what we build. Recently I've been experimenting with local AI: llama.cpp, ComfyUI, RAG systems with SQLite, testing local inference. Built my PC with AMD despite CUDA dominance because I care about keeping AI open and accessible. Interested in embedding models in desktop apps via Electron.

Philosophy

I started in non-tech roles and I've always been the tech person in my circles, so I don't overestimate what users can handle. I build things that are powerful but not intimidating. Complexity should grow as users learn, not hit them upfront. I think about retention. Happy to branch out when needed, I'll do database or infrastructure work.

Tech I use

React
Next.js
Tailwind
PostgreSQL
Linux
TypeScript
Python
Docker
Node.js
